Trivia, insights & behind the scenes
Le Caine built his first synthesizer, the Electronic Sackbut, in 1945—in his spare time while working at the National Research Council. He never patented it because he believed knowledge should be free.
While Robert Moog became the household name, Le Caine's touch-sensitive keyboard and voltage-controlled designs directly influenced synthesizer architecture—he just published papers instead of selling products.
