Trivia, insights & behind the scenes
Guimarães Rosa's original novel has never been fully translated into English; translators have called it 'untranslatable' due to its invented Portuguese dialect.
Luiza Lemmertz playing Diadorim continues a Brazilian tradition of women portraying the character, including in the legendary 1967 TV adaptation—preserving the androgynous mystery while making it explicitly queer.
