Trivia, insights & behind the scenes
Terry Jones wrote the film after his son asked why Vikings were always so grim in stories. He wanted to show them as 'cheerful, optimistic people who just happened to be killers.'
The film bombed on release but became a cult VHS staple, particularly in the UK where its anti-Thatcher satire of greedy leadership resonated more than critics admitted.
