Trivia, insights & behind the scenes
Dead & Company exists in a weird liminal space — not tribute band, not quite the Dead, but somehow the most commercially successful iteration since Jerry died. The Philadelphia show captures peak Mayer comfort, when he'd stopped trying to impress and started serving the song.
This was the first full-capacity Dead show post-pandemic, and the setlist deliberately echoes 8/21/72 — exactly 49 years prior. Weir reportedly insisted on the symmetry.
