Overview

ActionThriller

The Face of the Serpent is an action-thriller with strong political undertones of local government corruption. The film focuses on a morally conscious assassin called Quinn. His next target is a Russian immigrant named Tasha, whom Quinn is misled into believing is a drug courier. During Quinn's surveillance of Tasha, planning for the perfect moment to make his kill, he becomes infatuated with her beauty and pure innocence. Ultimately, Quinn rescues Tasha from the hands of another assassin and takes her into his protection. The two join forces to find out who wants her dead and why. In the process, Quinn discovers secrets from his past and battles with the inner demons that made him the man he is today.

Dean Paul's brooding assassin vs. his own emotional availability.

Writing

Dialogue that thinks it's The Professional but lands like soap opera.

Best for:Solo: When you need to feel like a film critic roasting a hidden gem.·Friends: Irony-fueled movie night with drinks and savage commentary.·Background: Fold laundry while half-watching assassin romance unfold.
Heads up:Violence: Assassin-on-assassin action with 2003-era gunfight choreography.

Trivia

Director David B. Craig never made another feature film after this, which some might call a pattern.

Cultural

This is peak post-9/11 direct-to-video action cinema: foreign innocent woman, corrupt domestic system, assassin with a heart of gold. The formula was everywhere and nowhere at once.
