The twin sisters Helena and Irene are born in Helsinki during World War II. Trivia, insights & behind the scenes

Cultural

One of only three Finnish films ever in competition at Venice—Honkasalo broke through in a male-dominated industry with zero compromises.

Insight

The fire-eating metaphor isn't subtle: Helena internalizes her grandmother's revolutionary fervor and literally weaponizes her own body to survive.
