Trivia, insights & behind the scenes
The 'Mikhalych' archetype references iconic Soviet-era crime bosses from prison folklore and 1990s gangster films. Zykov deliberately cast Bychkov, a veteran of the genre, to evoke nostalgia.
The entire film was shot in a real abandoned factory outside Tula; Stepankovskaya allegedly broke character laughing when an actual stray dog wandered into the 'planned' chaos scene.
