40 years of 'temporary' — a family waits for a world that forgot them.
Waiting for the UN is a poetic documentary about life in the desert, literally and figuratively. We follow the everyday life of a Saharawi family from occupied Western Sahara, who have lived ”temporary” in a refugee camp in Algeria for over 40 years. Waiting for God and the UN, as the father puts it.

Trivia, insights & behind the scenes
Western Sahara is Africa's last major colony; Morocco controls 80% despite a 1991 UN promise of referendum that still hasn't happened. The 'temporary' camps hold 173,000+ Saharawis.
Director Oltedal spent years building trust to film one family — most Saharawi documentaries get blocked or surveilled. This access itself is political.
