When my grandma was in the hospital. This was playing on tv. It was on a station called turner classic movies. And i was so enthralled. I didn't finish watching pompoko that day but when I got home I was able to watch spirited away on the same station. It did a lot for me. And kept me from being too sad.

One of my top favorite Ghibli movies. Both playful and heart-wrenching. These endearing characters believe in their mission so much, and when they realize and accept that they're fighting a losing battle, it's devastating. Also a really creative reflection on old Japan vs. new Japan. My favorite character is Kincho VI, who despite first showing up halfway through, satisfyingly becomes one of the main characters, driving the plot. The yokai parade scene is breathtaking, and the scene where they turn their home back the way it used to be makes me cry. 10/10
