Trivia

This 2002 version competes with the 1955 Bimal Roy classic and 2002 Bhansali spectacle—Bengali cinema loves suffering apparently.

Insight

The novella's 1917 publication made Devdas a cultural archetype; every Indian generation gets their own doomed remake.
