Trivia, insights & behind the scenes
This was the final film for both Fred Astaire and Melvyn Douglas; Douglas died before its release. The four leads' combined careers spanned nearly 200 years.
Released at the dawn of the slasher era, this old-fashioned ghost story bombed commercially—only to be rediscovered as a elegy for Hollywood's golden age itself.

This narrator was the narrator for every horror trailer in the 70s and 80s haha. Love his voice.

I secretly watched the movie at night when I was a kid. I didn't even know it was a horror movie. After the opening scene with Alma turning into a corpse, I passed out straight away. That was really a childhood trauma. So I named my little Ginger cat after Alice Kriege's character to get over it😸
