Trivia, insights & behind the scenes
This film basically created the visual template for how Ayyappan would look in popular culture for decades — before this, most devotees had only temple murals and imagination.
The four Kerala State Film Awards included Best Popular Film, which in 1975 meant 'the entire state showed up and wept in the correct religious way.'
