Trivia, insights & behind the scenes
Bryan Kaplan, a non-actor and actual Marine veteran, improvised much of his dialogue based on his own VA experiences. Director Geoff Ryan found him at a veterans' writing workshop in San Diego.
Released during the 2012 election cycle, the film was deliberately ignored by both parties — too critical of military worship for Republicans, too unsympathetic to government solutions for Democrats. It made $847 at the box office.
