Overview

DramaMusic

Cult director Richard Stanley brings Marillion's music to the screen in the 50-minute BRAVE. A teenager believed to be suicidal is discovered wandering near the Severn Bridge. Suffering from severe memory loss, she seeks information about the mysterious events that led to her condition. This work of fiction was inspired from the true story of an amnesiac woman found at the bridge.

Standout Aspects

Direction

Stanley's obsessive detail in every decaying frame.

Score

Marillion's album becomes a character, not just soundtrack.

Cinematography

Grimy, dreamlike images that refuse to let you look away.

Best for:Solo: Late night, headphones on, let it wash over you.·Rewatch: Demands repeat viewings to decode Stanley's visual language.
Heads up:Emotional: Suicide ideation and bridge imagery throughout.·Disturbing: Psychological unraveling, homelessness, and institutional cruelty.

Trivia, insights & behind the scenes

Trivia

Stanley shot this in abandoned buildings and real squats around Bristol, often without permits, casting actual homeless residents in small roles.

Cultural

Marillion's BRAVE album was already a concept piece about a woman found on the Severn Bridge; Stanley essentially filmed what the band only implied, creating cinema's rare true 'visual album' before that was even a term.
