The 2005 trip was part of a cultural exchange program; the band recorded basic tracks at EGREM, Cuba's legendary state-run studio where Buena Vista Social Club also laid down sessions.
Hucknall insisted on all-Cuban backing musicians for several numbers, leading to impromptu jam sessions that made the final cut despite originally being soundcheck warm-ups.
