Trivia

Moni Bhattacharjee was Bimal Roy's cinematographer before directing; the moody lighting here is basically his love letter to Roy's Madhumati.

Cultural

The 'impaired memory heiress' trope peaked in 1960s Bombay cinema as a way to explore female agency—or lack thereof—within gothic constraints.
