That careening brakeless truck sequence is genuinely nerve-wracking B-movie chaos.

Deep Dive

Trivia, insights & behind the scenes

Trivia

This was one of Roddy McDowall's transitional roles—fresh off his child stardom, not yet the Planet of the Apes icon, just a guy who really wanted to cut down trees.

Cultural

Director Jean Yarbrough was a Poverty Row workhorse who churned out B-pictures for Monogram and PRC; this lumberjack quickie exemplifies the 1950s second-feature ecosystem that kept theaters full and actors employed.
