Modern horror films aren't bad because they use CGI, they're bad because they pull punches. I think the creators of "L'Inferno" would have killed to have not gone through such a gratuitous process to produce such stunning effects, and probably would have used CGI if it were available. Modern horror films suck because they're worried about scaring people. It's horror! It's meant to scare people! You don't pull punches, you put your whole arm into it! This film pulls no punches. Headless people, rivers of blood, depictions of torture, it's in spades. In fact, I agree with the "CGI bad, Practical good" crowd on this point at least: It's actually there.
