It is about the lives and the musical stories of two Armenian musicians - a father and his son, Onnik Dinkjian and Ara Dinkjian. It tells the story of the remaking of a musical tradition and life in diaspora, passes through different geographies and countries following the traces of a musical tradition. Trivia, insights & behind the scenes
The Dinkjians descend from Armenian genocide survivors; their music carries over a century of displacement. Ara's group Night Ark fused traditional Armenian sounds with jazz, sparking debate about authenticity versus survival.
The film's title refers to a specific musical mode (maqam) associated with melancholy in Anatolian traditions — the documentary essentially performs its own subject.
