Sitsit (2020)

campy horrorerotic dreadfolk terror

Overview

Horror

A 2-part original movie featuring Scorpio: An aging photographer seeks the powers of an ancient Chinese potion and turns into a hunk of a man to win the love of a sensual young maiden. But choices made might lead to a miserable and tragic picture, and, Aswang: A woman with very little means adopted a stray dog who transforms into an Aswang to protect her from danger.

Standout Aspects

Practical Effects

Aswang transformation effects gloriously refuse to apologize for their budget.

Acting

Ivana Alawi commits fully to body horror and maternal terror.

Writing

Two wildly different moral frameworks in one tight anthology.

Best for:Solo: Late night when you want to feel weirdly judged by your screen.·Friends: With someone who won't mock your questionable streaming choices.·Binge: Both segments hit harder back-to-back at 60 minutes total.
Heads up:Sexual Content: Scorpio's erotic scenes with uncomfortable power dynamics.·Gore: Aswang's creature feasting doesn't flinch from visceral detail.

Deep Dive

Trivia, insights & behind the scenes

Cultural

Sitsit revives the Philippine 'aswang' legend specifically as a protective maternal figure rather than purely predatory, flipping centuries of folklore.

Insight

The two directors deliberately contrasted male and female gazes—Scorpio's segment leers while Aswang's protects, and both end in ruin.
