Trivia, insights & behind the scenes
Raijin (thunder gods) in folklore are chaotic but rarely malicious—this oni subverts the 'scary storm' trope into something tender.
Dezaki made this during his experimental period at Madhouse; the eggplant-as-ladder motif reappears in his 1979 'Aim for the Ace!' tennis imagery.
