Title comes from a John Cheever short story — Hong's literary obsession starts here. This was also Song Kang-ho's second film role, years before he became Korea's biggest star.
Released during Korea's IMF crisis, the film's aimless intellectuals mirrored a generation's disillusionment. Hong would remake this structure for the next 25 years.
