This is the best Herzog film. It's personal. This insane man was his best friend and they reflected each other. Was it healthy? No. Were they good for each other? No. But there's a scene where Herzog goes walking through the house they lived in together and he's talking about the door being kicked down bu Kinski and the rambling insanity that Kinski had and he's smiling, almost like he wishes he could go back there. It's not just respect for each other, it's brotherhood and all the horror that came with it. But this movie is a love letter from Werner Herzog to Klaus Kinski. He wishes they could be together one more time and suffer together the way that they used to. In a way it's just showing that Werner Herzog is just as insane as Klaus Kinski. They hated each other, and they loved each other. When Kinski died I'm sure it was a relief for Herzog. But still a part of him went with him. The part that remembers that they loved each other despite the madness.
