Deep Dive

Trivia, insights & behind the scenes

Cultural

This film exemplifies 1990s Algerian cinema's obsession with Rai music culture and the romanticized figure of the working-class singer.

Insight

The 'traumatic muteness' trope here echoes older Egyptian melodramas, showing how Algerian cinema borrowed and Maghrebi-fied classic Arab film conventions.
