Biography

Mathias Skaarup is a documentary director whose work is rooted in immersive, character-driven storytelling. His films linger in quiet, transformative moments where the personal becomes universal, approaching documentary as a space for empathy and connection. Before co-founding Holocene Studios in Copenhagen, he worked at Elara Pictures in New York on projects including the Safdie Brothers’ Good Time (2017) and Uncut Gems (2019), an experience in high-energy, raw filmmaking that continues to influence his approach today.
