Ángela Carabalí is an Afro-Colombian documentary filmmaker and university professor with an honorary master’s degree in Documentary Film and a master’s degree in Documentary Photography. I Dreamed His Name (2026) is her first feature film; it was awarded Best National Feature Film at the Cali International Film Festival (FICCALI), received a Special Jury Mention at the Hot Docs Festival and the Vancouver Latin American Film Festival, and won Best Ibero-American Feature Film at the Buenos Aires International Documentary Film Festival.
She served as assistant director on Ser o No Ser (2018) by director Jhonny Hendrix Hinestroza, and was production manager on A Mother (2022) by director Diógenes Cuevas. She is the director, screenwriter, and co-producer of the internationally acclaimed interactive documentary Pregoneros de Medellín (2014). She is a fellow of the Sundance Institute, Firelight Media, American Film Showcase, and Solutions Storytelling Project:LATAM, where she created the short documentary The Echo (2025).
