Trivia, insights & behind the scenes
This 2002 Hallmark miniseries was actually filmed in 2001 but delayed post-9/11 due to its maritime disaster imagery. The irony of a shipwreck story being too traumatic is almost poetic.
Johann Wyss's original 1812 novel was Swiss propaganda for colonial settlement; this adaptation weirdly keeps that energy while adding pirate violence the Disney version wouldn't touch. The cognitive dissonance is delicious.
