Kratz filmed each generation's episodes with different aspect ratios—4:3 for the 1920s grandmother, slowly widening to 16:9 for the 1980s granddaughter.
Banned from East German television until 1989 for depicting abortion and workplace sexism too honestly; West German critics then dismissed it as 'too Eastern' in sensibility. The series had no home until reunification.
