This is actually the SECOND Akuma Kun anime adaptation—the 1989 original was a cult classic that terrified a generation of Japanese kids.
The manga creator Shigeru Mizuki basically IS Japanese horror folklore; GeGeGe no Kitaro made yokai mainstream, and this is his darker, weirder cousin.
