Creators Lucy Heavens and Nic Smal met at CalArts and developed Kiff from a short film. The mountain town setting was inspired by Smal's South African upbringing mixed with Heavens' British humor.
The show's 'no villains' approach is deliberate—conflict comes from misunderstanding and enthusiasm run amok, making it a rarity in animated kids' TV.
