Part 4

Nov 17, 1994

Scarlett keeps her daughter's birth a secret from Rhett to spite him, thinking that if Cat grows up not knowing her father she will, unlike Bonnie, not love him. The day that Rhett finally does meet his daughter, he will realize that she does not love him or even know him, thus giving Scarlett her revenge. Anne Hampton-Butler also travels to Ireland with Rhett and has a lengthy conversation with Scarlett, but soon dies from yellow fever. Meanwhile, Lord Richard Fenton, one of the wealthiest men in Europe, pursues Scarlett with the intent of marriage. One night, Fenton assaults his servant Mary, who kills him in retaliation, but Scarlett is accused. When Scarlett is put on trial, Rhett comes to her defense, after having learned about his daughter Katie.

Overview

Drama

Scarlett is a 1994 American television miniseries loosely based on Alexandra Ripley's eponymous 1991 book of the same name, a sequel to Margaret Mitchell's 'Gone with the Wind' (1936). Filmed across the United States and abroad, the series stars Joanne Whalley and Timothy Dalton. The miniseries was broadcast in four parts on CBS from November 13-17, 1994. Following the death of her sister-in-law Melanie Wilkes, Scarlett O'Hara sets out to reclaim her doomed romance with Rhett Butler, as it takes her home to Tara to Charleston to Savannah to Ireland, where she learns of her family's roots.

Standout Aspects

Production

Ireland location shooting actually looks like Ireland.

Costume

Whalley's wardrobe commits to the bit gloriously.

Acting

Dalton's exasperated Rhett is unintentionally hilarious.

Best for:Solo: Commit to the chaos with wine and zero judgment.·Binge: Clear your weekend—you'll need recovery time.·Rewatch: GWTW devotees seeking closure, however messy.
Heads up:Emotional: Melanie's death opens the wound immediately.·Triggers: Questionable Irish stereotypes and plantation nostalgia.
