Who will win... Soraton (Matsudai Koya) and Tenba (Yusho) are the last two men standing. After a fierce battle, Soraton points his sword at Tenba, while Hagiri (Tomoki Maruyama), who 20 years ago also pointed his sword at his comrade, finally reveals himself... Leaf Worm speaks of the ugliness of the world and confronts him with overwhelming power and despair. Azami (Kyoko Hinami) quietly watches on. For whom do they fight? Who are the protectors and Garo?

Overview

DramaAction & AdventureSci-Fi & Fantasy

The Makai fight a secret war against the demon forces known as Horrors, evil creatures that manifest themselves through darkness to devour Humanity. On the frontlines are the Makai Knights, given the task of watching over a district and eliminating any Horrors that manifest there. Standout Aspects

Practical Effects

Keita Amemiya's grotesque Horror designs—wet, tactile, deeply unhinged body horror.

Costume

The iconic Garo armor: gold, ornate, and somehow both ridiculous and majestic.

Direction

Amemiya's visual poetry—shadow, rain, and moonlight as emotional language.

Best for:Solo: Late-night binge when you crave camp with genuine emotional teeth.·Friends: Drinking game: sip every time armor transformation takes 90 seconds.·Binge: Seven seasons of escalating melodrama and increasingly unhinged villains.
Heads up:Sexual Content: Frequent nudity in Horror designs and occasional suggestive content—it's mature tokusatsu.·Violence: Graphic demon consumption scenes; body horror exceeds typical superhero fare.

Deep Dive

Trivia, insights & behind the scenes

Cultural

GARO pioneered 'adult tokusatsu,' proving henshin heroes could carry mature serialization—directly influencing subsequent franchises like Kamen Rider Amazons.

Trivia

The iconic armor was so heavy that early suit actors could only perform for 30-minute intervals; later suits incorporated lighter materials.
