Trivia, insights & behind the scenes
Being April arrived during a wave of working-class British dramedies, but its casual treatment of bisexuality and multicultural relationships was notably ahead of its time for early 2000s ITV.
Pete Lawson later became a lead writer on EastEnders; you can spot his signature blend of domestic catastrophe and sharp one-liners throughout.
