Trivia, insights & behind the scenes
Chain Letters epitomised ITV's 1980s strategy of cheap, regional-produced filler that somehow ran for seven years and 321 episodes—more than most prestige dramas get today.
The show's 1995 revival coincided with Channel 4's Countdown dominance, making it essentially ITV's desperate attempt to reclaim word-nerd audiences with worse lighting.
