I am Orthodox Christian, and from a Navy family ☦ On the matter of fighting evil, I stand with Michael. We are, after all, one body in Christ. Thank you for this very important series!

Cardinal Pacelli (the future Pius XII) was the Papal Legate to the Weimer Republic/Germany. So he knew of Hitler and what sort of person he was. After returning to Rome and Hitler rose to power, Pope Pius XI published the only Catholic Encyclical not written in Latin, "Mit Brennender Sorge" (With Burning Concern) It was a scathing rebuke on Naziism and had to be smuggled into Germany. Though it was published under Pius XI, the author is believed to be Cardinal Pacelli (Pius XII)

Pius XII is the greatest pope in the past several centuries. In my book, The Godmother, his secretary of 41 years recounts some of his magnificent contributions to humanity.
