Trivia, insights & behind the scenes
The stairwell landing is intentionally shot as a 'third space' — neither inside nor outside, mirroring the characters' liminal identities as queer teens in rigid Japanese academic culture.
Haruhi Iuchi learned basic piano for the role; Akune Haruse requested his character remain largely mute through episode 6, collaborating with the director to build physical vocabulary instead.
