Writing
Lynda La Plante's razor-sharp matriarch dialogue
Acting
Ann Mitchell's Dolly—steely, damaged, unforgettable
Production

Trivia, insights & behind the scenes
Lynda La Plante wrote this after interviewing real armed robbers' wives in prison, basing Dolly on a woman who learned to read maps from her husband's heist plans.
This preceded the 2018 Steve McQueen film by 35 years—La Plante's original depicts working-class women with none of the Hollywood polish, making their criminal competence feel almost documentary.
