Dr. Slump made Akira Toriyama rich enough to refuse editors' demands—Dragon Ball only happened because he wanted to write serious fighting manga instead. The poop won.
Arale's 'Kiiin!' sound effect and running gag of destroying the moon (it gets fixed) directly inspired Dragon Ball's tone and visual language. The student surpassed the master.
