Trivia, insights & behind the scenes
This series essentially functioned as Canada's national conscience during the Centennial era, when public broadcasting felt obligated to traumatize viewers into awareness.
Many episodes were shot on location with non-professional actors from the communities depicted, a radical choice that occasionally backfired into raw, uncomfortable authenticity.
