Overview

Drama

The Blonde Bombshell is a British two-part biographical miniseries created by Ted Whitehead, about Diana Diors, an actress and sex symbol considered to be the English counterpart to Marilyn Monroe. Keeley Hawes plays Diors in her formidable years (1945–60), and by Amanda Redman in her further career (1965–84).

Standout Aspects

Acting

Hawes and Redman share a role seamlessly — two souls, one wrecked life.

Production

Period detail that screams 'we made this in 1999 and it's perfect.'

Best for:Solo: When you want obscure history that hits harder than expected.·Rewatch: Catch the casting echoes between Hawes and Redman.
Heads up:Sexual Content: Diors' exploitation and abusive relationships depicted unflinchingly.·Emotional: Terminal decline and early death of real-life figure.

Trivia, insights & behind the scenes

Trivia

Diana Fluck changed her name to Dors after a cheeky schoolboy rearranged the letters on a marquee to spell something obscene.

Cultural

The real Diors was dubbed 'Britain's Marilyn,' but unlike Monroe, she never broke Hollywood — this miniseries argues that failure preserved her as purely British property.
