Starz launched this as their answer to FX's The Shield and HBO's The Wire, but audiences never showed up. It became a cautionary tale about chasing Oscar prestige on the small screen.
Despite sharing title, themes, and creator Paul Haggis, only one character from the 2004 film appears in the series—and barely. It was legally distinct enough to avoid being a direct adaptation.
