Cleo is a Swedish drama/comedy TV series in three seasons, each consisting of nine episodes. It was broadcasted on SVT1 between 2002 and 2003. The series is created by Michael Hjorth, Johan Kindblom och Tomas Tivemark at production company Tre Vänner. The name of the series comes from the main character Cleopatra "Cleo" Andersson, played by Suzanne Reuter. When the first episode aired on March 24, 2002 it was watched by 2,2 million people. At the 2004 Monte-Carlo TV Festival Cleo won three awards in the comedy category, Outstanding Actor, Outstanding Actress and Outstanding European Producer.
Acting
Suzanne Reuter owns every frame—vulnerable, vicious, utterly magnetic.
Writing
Sharp satire of corporate Sweden with zero mercy for anyone.
Trivia, insights & behind the scenes
Cleo arrived as Sweden was grappling with its 'lagom' cultural identity—Reuter's character rejects moderation entirely, making her both hilarious and slightly terrifying to Swedish audiences.
The Monte-Carlo triple win in 2004 made Cleo the most awarded Swedish comedy at the time—yet it remains bizarrely untranslated for global streaming.
