Overview

MysterySci-Fi & Fantasy

Eiji, an average high school student, and his 2 friends stumble onto a crime scene. When he touches something with one of his hands, he is able to receive brief impressions of the past of the object - psychometry. Determined to solve crimes, a woman detective finds out about his ability and tries to persuade him to use it, even resorting to food bribes for he and his friends.

Standout Aspects

Acting

Matsuoka's panic-to-brilliance whiplash is perfectly teen.

Direction

Psychometry sequences: dated effects, genuinely unsettling execution.

Writing

Detective Shima's manipulation arc deserves study.

Best for:Solo: Late-night comfort viewing with weirdly specific nostalgia.·Friends: Group watch where everyone guesses the killer first.·Binge: Weekend marathon, episode endings are rude.
Heads up:Disturbing: Crime scene impressions include murder memories, occasionally visceral.

Deep Dive

Trivia, insights & behind the scenes

Cultural

Adapted from the manga by Yuma Ando and Masashi Asaki, this 1997 live-action predates the psychic detective boom by years.

Insight

The hand-specific limitation (left receives, right doesn't) was invented for this adaptation to heighten visual tension.
