This was Apple's first original scripted series, greenlit partly because Spielberg's name made executives swoon. The $5 million per episode budget shows—just not in the writing room.
The 1985 original ran for two seasons and gave early breaks to directors like Robert Zemeckis and Clint Eastwood. This revival couldn't secure a Season 2 despite that pedigree and Spielberg's executive producer credit.
