Tim Conway and Don Knotts improvised so much that the script was reportedly just a suggestion. The 'belles' scene was almost entirely their creation.
This was one of Disney's last pure live-action slapstick comedies before the '80s turned them toward grittier family fare. A dinosaur of innocence.
