Trivia, insights & behind the scenes
Issan (Northeast Thailand) was historically marginalized; this film captures 1970s government efforts to expand rural education that often crashed against local power structures.
Director Surasee Patham was himself a rural teacher before filmmaking; Panna Rittikrai, who plays the idealistic teacher, was legendary stunt choreographer Tony Jaa's mentor.
