A director turns the camera on his own father and accidentally captures 40 years of immigrant dreams deferred.
Fatih Akin sets out in search of his family roots and paints a portrait of his Turkish family. In 1965, his father came to Germany from Turkey to try his luck as a guest worker. He actually only wanted to stay for two years, but then he brought his wife to Hamburg and still works today in the chemical cleaning factory where he found a job back then.
Direction
Akin before 'Head-On' — raw, searching, not yet polished.
Writing
Conversations so ordinary they ache with unspoken history.

Director
Fatih Akin

Watch this, then 'The Edge of Heaven' — this is where Akin's obsession with fractured Turkish-German families began, in his actual living room.
