Trivia, insights & behind the scenes
This was actually the SECOND Poe 'Rue Morgue' adaptation in 22 years—Universal made one in 1932 with Bela Lugosi that tanked so hard they waited a generation to try again.
The film rode the 3D craze of 1953-54, which is why so many objects get thrown AT the camera—originally audiences ducked from a swinging ape arm.
