Standout Aspects

Production

Shinigami Ryuk still looks incredible, budget clearly went here

Acting

Sosuke Ikematsu channels L's mannerisms without pure imitation

Writing

Six death notes is arguably too many death notes, but commits to chaos

Best for:Streaming: Late night with snacks, preferably after rewatching the original duology·Friends: Anime friends who'll debate if this lives up to L vs. Light·Rewatch: Only if you need to track which of the six notes does what
Heads up:Violence: Mass death sequences including public heart attacks and explosions·Disturbing: Kira cult ideology presented seductively, not clearly condemned

Trivia, insights & behind the scenes

Trivia

This was part of a 2016 'Death Note' project that included this film, a miniseries, and a fourth live-action movie—Japan went ALL IN that year.

Cultural

The 'Kira virus' plotline weirdly predicted how online movements can radicalize decentralized followers—a decade before certain real-world parallels became unavoidable.
