Buddhism and thousands of golden pagodas characterize Myanmar. By boat it goes to the villages and towns on its banks. The former royal city was Mandalay with the palace complex, the famous Buddha sculptors and goldsmiths. The fascinating setting in Amarapura is the sunset at the U-Bein Bridge, the longest teak bridge in the world. In Bagan, at sunrise, the hot air balloons glide over the 2,000 pagodas and temples that protrude from the plain to Mount Popa.
